Celebrating 10 years of RoRo StretchPack® Innovation

We are thrilled to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the innovative RoRo StretchPack® packaging technology.

A decade ago, Tentoma launched RoRo StretchPack®, a technique that revolutionized the way we approach 6-sided packaging – by enhancing efficiency, sustainability, and overall packaging performance.

RoRo StretchPack® is built upon the foundation of proven vertical stretch hood packaging, commonly used for upright pallet protection using stretch hood film. However, we took a groundbreaking step by refining and expanding this technology to enable horizontal packaging of products within a sealed stretch hood film for 6-sided protection.

We are proud to have transformed the packaging landscape, making 6-sided packaging more sustainable and cost-effective. As we reflect on a decade of RoRo StretchPack®, we look forward to many more years of pushing boundaries and providing cutting-edge solutions for our valued customers.

6-sided packaging of pallets with heavy steel plates

Pruszyński Sp. z o.o, a major Polish manufacturer of steel roofing and facades, has installed a RoRo StretchPack® packaging line at their facility near Warsaw in Poland. The new line is for packaging pallets with stacks of heavy steel plates for roofing. The pallets, including the stacked plates, are in dimensions of; width 1250 mm, length 3000 mm and height 220 mm. Earlier, the process was manual, but Pruszyński wanted to automate the packaging line and has chosen a RoRo StretchPack® solution.

In this project, Tentoma was the supplier of the RoRo StretchPack® machine, while the Polish machine builder Zaprom, engineered and supplied the infeed and outfeed conveyors. The infeed conveyor is with a moveable tongue which carries the pallet through the RoRo StretchPack® machine. Pruszyński now benefits from a fully automated horizontal packaging process performing a 6-sided sealed packaging protecting their products against external elements.

100% sealed packaging of waste bales

RoRo StretchPack® makes it possible to pack and seal waste bales entirely with a minimum of film.

Using a single-layer tubular stretch film, RoRo StretchPack® packs bales horizontally. During the process, the packaging is sealed at each end, providing 100% waterproof packaging. The packaging and sealing are done in one operation.

It prevents pieces of waste from dropping off the bales during storage and handling. Moreover, the risk of water penetrating the bales is removed, particularly beneficial for bales of paper waste.

RoRo StretchPack® is designed for a high packaging capacity and uptime. It fits into a highly efficient production line – inline or stand-alone.

XL Power enables up to 19 m long packaging and increases packaging speed

Tentoma introduces a new
XL Power packaging machine

The new XL Power packaging machine enables 6-sided sealed packaging of up to 19-meter-long products. For packaging of shorter products, XL Power can stretch film for even more products per packaging cycle, which increases the packaging speed. The first XL Power is already built and sold to replace an orbital wrapper. It is for a packaging line at a production site, where it will pack panels in varied sizes, all the way up to 13.5 m in length.

Designed for stretching even more film

XL Power have more forces for stretching film. It means that XL Power can load and stretch even more film on the gripper arms during the packaging process. It opens opportunities for more packaging improvements. Most obvious is the increased maximum length of the products, which now can be packed and protected by 6-sided waterproof packaging. Depending on product shape and film thickness, it is now possible to pack and seal products up to 19 meters long. It is an increase in product length of 50%1), compared to the standard RoRo StretchPack® XL machine.

XL Power increases packaging speed by up to 25%

Another benefit from XL Power is increased packaging speed. The ability to load and stretch even more film on the gripper arms increases the packaging speed when using the “Semiflow packaging” principle. “Semiflow packaging” enables the packaging of multiple products in a row before the machine needs to load more film on the gripper arms. XL Power can load and stretch even more film on the gripper arms, so it is possible to pack even more products in a row compared to the XL machine. A comparison between XL and XL Power shows that when the XL machine packs 210 products per hour, the new XL Power machine packs 260 products. It means an increase in the packaging speed of est. 25%2) when using XL Power.

Technical speaking, the new XL Power is a reinforced version of the proven RoRo StretchPack® XL packaging machine. The main improvements on the XL Power machine are:

  • It is equipped with stronger and longer gripper arms to load more film.
  • The motors have become more powerful to stretch even more film.
  • The steel construction has become stronger to withstand the increased tensile forces. As all the RoRo StretchPack® machines, XL Power will be adapted to the production line and the specific packaging requirement.
1) ex. 60 μ film, 5% stretch => XL: 11 m > < XL Power: 17 m
2) ex. 60 μ film, 5% stretch, product length 1200 mm
The main improvements on the XL Power machine are stronger and longer gripper arms to load more film, more powerful motors, and the steel construction has become stronger to withstand the increased tensile forces.
The new XL Power machine is designed for stretching even longer film tubes, which enables up to 19 m long packaging and increases packaging speed.

DYKA orders RoRo StretchPack® for packaging of 10-meter pipes

DYKA Group, a leading European manufacturer of pipework systems, has ordered a RoRo StretchPack® packaging solution from Tentoma A/S for packaging of 10-meter long pipes. It will be installed in mid-2022 at the production site at Steenwijk in the Netherlands.

The main reason for this investment is that DYKA wants to improve the protection of its products against dirt and UV light, to ensure that both the quality and appearance are perfect when the pipes reach customers. The new packaging solution will also make it possible to have the DYKA logo nicely branded on the packaging film. It is not possible with the orbital wrapper, DYKA is using today.

Using RoRo StretchPack®, DYKA will pack up to 10-meter-long plastic pipes horizontal into a UV-resistant stretch film tube. The film tube will be sealed in both ends for 100% protection against dirt, water and UV light during storage and transportation. The stretch film also ensures tight and uniform packaging while it will minimize film consumption.

New door packaging line provides 100% sealed packaging

Core plug applicator

Tentoma has now introduced a full RoRo StretchPack® packaging line for 6-sided sealed door packaging. The new packaging line includes the following functionalities dedicated to the door manufacturing industry:

  • The door is lifted for mounting corner protection
  • The door is centred on the infeed conveyor
  • The door size is measured (width x height)
  • The door is packed and sealed in one operation

Using RoRo StretchPack®, the door is packed in a tubular stretch film. It provides a 6-sided packaging, with a short 100% waterproof sealing in each end. It protects the door against the penetration of dirt and moisture during storage and transportation.

“We have seen more door manufacturers shifting to use RoRo StretchPack® for packaging,” Jane Tønder says. She is Head of Sales at Tentoma, who has developed the RoRo StretchPack® technology. She continues:” That is the reason why we have developed this complete packaging line  to the door manufacturing industry. It can be installed as a standalone solution or as an inline solution in a fully automated production line. The final configuration will of course always be based on customers’ requirements”.
