Packaging of wood products

Wood is a versatile and sustainable material, widely used in various industries due to its durability, flexibility, and natural aesthetic. However, protecting wood products during transportation and storage is crucial to maintaining their quality until they are processed or used on construction sites.

The RoRo StretchPack® packaging machines are ideal for six-sided packaging of wood materials, particularly larger items and building materials, as well as wood-based engineered panels and boards like OSB, CLT, and SIP.

The products are wrapped in a tubular stretch hood film and sealed at the ends to provide complete protection against moisture and other environmental factors, ensuring the wood remains in optimal condition.

For timber and wood that are still moist, it is possible to use a perforated packaging film or apply 4- or 5-sided packaging, which allows for evaporation.

Suitable for a versatile range of wooden products

A RoRo StretchPack® packaging solution enables fully automated packaging of wood products, which were traditionally manually packed due to the market’s lack of appropriate packaging solutions. It also provides a way to increase packaging capacity while enhancing packaging quality.

It is suitable for a wide range of wooden products, including classic sawn wood, bundled panels, boards, and individual items such as panels, ladders, tabletops, doors, and other wooden building materials.

Automated packaging with high throughput

The packaging machine can be installed as an in-line solution, which is recommended for a fully automated process with high throughput. However, it can also be installed as a standalone solution, with products fed onto the infeed conveyor.

The final packaging solution is always customized to the product type and specific packaging requirements. A broad range of conveyor types and devices with various functionalities are available as options. For example, we have developed a dedicated door packaging line with an infeed conveyor, where the door is lifted for mounting corner protection.

Tight packaging provides film saving

The tubular stretch hood film used in RoRo StretchPack® packaging creates tight packaging without heat shrink. The film also has high tear and puncture resistance, reducing the risk of holes during handling and transportation.

These features often lead to reduced film consumption compared to conventional packaging. Based on our customer cases, we typically observe film savings of 25-60% when switching to RoRo StretchPack® from methods like orbital wrapping and heat shrink packaging.

When packaging products with very sharp corners, it’s possible to apply three layers of film to the front and back ends of the product, reinforcing the film at the corners. This is done during the RoRo StretchPack® packaging process.
