Stretch Hood Film Test Tool
for quality assessment

The Tentoma Stretch Hood Film Tool FT 1.0 is a tool for the indicative assessment of how suitable industrial film is for stretch hood packaging.

Several factors influence how suitable a film is for stretch hood packaging. Three of these factors are:

  • Tear resistance (T)
  • Stretch retention (SR)
  • Overstretch lines (OSL).

Using the Stretch Hood Film Test Tool, you can perform a number of tests to estimate these three factors. Based on these tests, you will obtain an overall indicative assessment of how suitable the stretch hood film is for stretch hood packaging.

Quick onsite evaluation of stretch hood film performance

With the FT 1.0 Stretch Hood Film Tool, you can perform fast, indicative tests directly at the packaging line to assess whether film quality may be the cause of machine issues. Simple to use and ideal for operators and technicians, this tool offers valuable insights without the need for laboratory equipment. For detailed analysis, we recommend consulting your film supplier or using high-precision measuring tools.

Guidelines for testing

The testing procedure using the Stretch Hood Film Test Tool FT 1.0 consists of five steps. First, three film samples are cut using the supplied template. These samples are then used for a series of tests: the tear resistance test measures how easily the film tears when stretched; the stretch retention test evaluates the film’s ability to return to its original state after being stretched; and the overstretch lines test identifies when visible stretch marks appear under tension. Based on the results from these three tests, a final indicative assessment is made of the film’s overall suitability for stretch hood packaging.

See the user manual for Stretch Hood Film Test Tool.

The Stretch Hood Film Test Tool is available in the Tentoma Test Kit.

IMPORTANT: Coefficient of friction (COF)

The coefficient of friction (COF) of the stretch hood film is another critical parameter in ensuring smooth and trouble-free packaging. COF requirements may vary depending on the packaging machine in use. RoRo StretchPack® packaging requires a COF of less than 0.25.

To obtain an indicative reading of your film’s COF, you can use the Tentoma COF Indicator.
